"Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!" Matthew 14:29-30
Every time I'm afraid I'm reminded of this story of Jesus walking on the water. Peter was not afraid in the beginning when he saw Jesus. But he became afraid when he saw the wind. It is the same with us when we are afraid. We get scared when we put too much focus on our surroundings and not on Jesus. Often times I walk pass homeless people on the street and do not show any compassion to them because I'm afraid of many things. How would I look if I approach a homeless person on the street? I hear a lot of crimes committed by homeless people, would my life be in danger? Would they spread COVID to me? These questions are the winds in our life because the focus of those questions was about ourselves. If our focus was on Jesus, and what He would have done, then we would have more compassion for the homeless.
