Legacy

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

As I enter a season in my life when aches and pains become more the norm, and thoughts of retirement are not too far in the future anymore, I have become more reflective on how I have lived my life and a word that comes to mind more often than not is legacy. What is

the spiritual heritage I want to leave for my family? All of us wants to leave a legacy, to be remembered for doing some good. In 2Tim 2:1-2 Paul not only hoped Timothy would remember the examples he set, but wanted Timothy to also be a godly example for others to

follow too.

This is sometimes difficult to do within one’s family when they see your whole life, both the good and the not so good. However, I see this as an opportunity for God’s grace and forgiveness to be made even more evident. The reality is that none of us is perfect, but it is only through the blood of Jesus can we come before God spotless and be made complete. It’s our responsibility as parents to set good examples for our children. Living a life worthy of His calling, teaching our children to love the Lord and obey authority are just some of the

responsibilities we must prayerfully strive to do. This includes times when we fail God. Instead of hiding it, we need to show our children how much we need God. Through our repentance, asking for forgiveness, and having the faith to know we are forgiven by blood of Jesus, we can point them to Jesus. When we pass on our faith in the Lord Jesus to our children, we give them a spiritual inheritance which money cannot buy and death cannot take away.
