I enjoy my morning runs. Besides the health benefits of running, I enjoy the quiet peaceful time in the mornings with nobody around, just me and God. In today’s stressful society, I think we all long for peace. Whether stress or worry comes from our jobs, or lack of one, finances, family or health, we all seek peace. For Christians, we yearn for God’s peace. Is that the same type of peace non-Christians desire?
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 teaches us that God’s peace is different from that which the world gives. The world expects the causes of conflicts or stress to resolve in order to experience peace. As followers of Christ, our peace comes from the calm of our Lord Jesus Christ. The bible shows us Jesus can calm raging storms. Sometimes that means He will make our troubles go away. However, there may be times when our prayers are not answered in the way we expect or it may seem they are not answered at all. These are the times which makes God’s peace different from what the world gives, for it does not depend on circumstances but comes from looking at His face and His calmness. Knowing he is in control, He loves us, and that everything has a purpose for those who love Him. This allows us to see the big picture. If you are experiencing stress or worry because of your circumstances, turn your mind to Him, and right yourself with God. Your problems may not go away, but let His peace with surpasses all understanding will take hold of you.
