OCM Cares for Chinatown:
Eat and Drink, Care and Share
As you know, Chinatown has lost a lot of business over these past 15 months due to Covid with less people coming into our community and some restaurants, bakeries and other businesses having to shut down and close completely.
Starting in June and throughout the Summer, OCM and the Local Missions Department are asking OCM members to be part of an initiative to help support Chinatown businesses by purchasing from Chinatown restaurants, bakeries, drink shops and markets within a 4-5 block radius of OCM.
The Local Missions Department will prepare a gift package each Sunday which includes an information sheet about OCM and a Christian Newspaper or Magazine. OCMers can pick up these gift packages in the OCM Lobby and when you go about shopping and buying lunch or snacks or groceries or dinner in Chinatown, we ask that you give this gift package to the store workers and tell them that you are from Oversea Chinese Mission and that we are a church on the corner of Hester street and Elizabeth Street and that we as a church are trying to support your business in the next few months.
We won't be telling you where to eat or shop because no likes to be told what to eat, but we are asking that you continue to go back to the same places so that you can build a relationship with the store employees. When it is really busy in the store, please keep try to keep the conversations to a minimum out of respect for the store. But when you go at times when it is less busy like mid afternoon, you can try to talk with them and share with them about the information sheet which includes the link to the OCM Website where they can watch the OCM Sunday Services.
In addition to going to your regular eating places, we ask that you go try new places that you have never eaten before so that you can build new relationships.
As we are starting to come back to OCM for Worship and Fellowship,
Let's also start to make a positive impact in our Chinatown Community
Let's show Chinatown that OCM Cares and supports them.
Let's go out to Chinatown to eat and drink, to care and share the Gospel.
