Charles, or Chuck, as most people call him, was born in Canton, China and baptized at age 12 in Hong Kong. He immigrated to New York City with his family when he was 15 and started attending Oversea Chinese Mission as a teen. After he graduated from Cooper Union in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics, Chuck furthered his studies at Columbia University where he earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics in 1971 and a Professional Degree in Civil Engineering in 1972. During his 40+ years in the professional field, Chuck worked in both public and private sectors, engaging in the design and construction of various types of buildings, industrial plants and municipal facilities. As his faith in Christ matured, Chuck developed a love for serving the church in various capacities ranging from fellowship group advisor to New Life Class teacher for 18 years and Steering Committee member for 8 years. Chuck was ordained in 2006 as an Elder by OCM and presently assists the Pastoral Staff in ministering to church members. Chuck enjoys sailing, skiing and other outdoor activities, biblical studies, general reading, and going on short-term mission trips as well as spending time with his wife, Anna, children and grandchildren.

Rick graduated from Baptist Bible College of Pennsylvania in 1982. In 1983, Rick married Deb and they moved to New York City where he worked in retail for Tiffany & Co. During this time, Rick and Deb attended and served as volunteer youth leaders. In 1990, Rick left Tiffany’s to join Oversea Chinese Mission full-time and served as the church Administrator, and with Deb as the Youth Advisors. For about a decade, Deb and Rick left OCM to serve H.O.P.E. Bible Mission as missionaries in Guatemala. Their focus was, and continues to be, the development of local leadership for the church. Recently, Deb and Rick returned to serve OCM’s English Ministries and Administration. They have two children, Eric who continues to live in Guatemala, and Lauren who is in college in New York City.

A multiple lottery winner, Rocky has been serving at Oversea Chinese Mission ever since his retirement from Seal Team 6. Serving at OCM easily surpasses his earlier life experiences of treasure hunting, lion taming, and tracing the source of the Nile. He’s best friends with Jacques Cousteau, Jane Goodall, and Nicola Tesla. Just kidding. Rocky is the youth pastor of OCM and is happily married to Minna. He loves sharing about God and His Word. He also loves leading youth mission teams and helping youth lead transformed lives. Rocky’s interests include fixing bikes, visiting museums, and talking apologetics. After graduating from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a brief stint in small town in Massachusetts, Rocky returned to the greatest City on Earth in November 2007 to serve the church that raised him – OCM.

Austin was born in New York City and raised in Manhattan’s Chinatown. He became a Christian through Oversea Chinese Mission’s Youth Ministry. During college, Austin received God’s call to full-time ministry at Intervarsity’s Urbana Missions Conference, specifically, to serve the American Born Chinese in an urban context. After graduating from college and working 5 years in the financial industry, by God’s grace, Austin answered His call to attend Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and graduated 3 years later. God opened the door for Austin to return and serve his home church, OCM in January 2007. Since then, he has served various groups at OCM—the English Ministry, college students, Christian Education, Fellowship Department, and the Local Evangelism Department. Austin’s desire is to teach God’s Word and to help Christians live out God’s teachings by loving God and loving others. He is married to Susanna and has 2 wonderful kids, Gabriel and Hannah.

Born in the Netherlands, the gift of a dog helped Deb practice and learn English when she struggled in school after moving to the U.S.  Since then, she has raised several dogs, but none that have been able to help her learn Chinese. Thankfully, she has discovered God’s language is love so that works very well in Chinatown, Guatemala, or wherever God takes her!

Deb graduated with a BA in Psychology from Cedarville University in 1983 and received her MS Ed from Fordham University in New York City.  She worked at the College Board before embarking on her career as mom and began the After School program at OCM in 1989. She and Pastor Rick have directed H.O.P.E. Bible Mission since 1995. For the past 10 years their work has been focused on Guatemala. There Deb has led the Firm Foundations training program for teachers in the difficult to access Quiche Region.

Deb’s passion is to make God’s Word real to kids. She enjoys teaching any age as long as they are young at heart. God’s creation, reading, and having great conversation with her husband Rick and their young adult children Lauren, Eric and daughter-in-law Kalia, keep her challenged and inspired.

Stephen was born to immigrant parents in New York City and spent most of his formative years on the outskirts of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. He was reborn in Christ when he started attending Oversea Chinese Mission in the autumn of 1994. Had Stephen known God would eventually lead him to the position of Administrator at Oversea Chinese Mission in May 2006, Stephen would have traded his expensive college education for an immersive study abroad program in China. In addition to receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in graphic communications from New York University, Stephen possesses 180 other degrees on his protractor and an extensive knowledge of the liberal and cultural arts on his smartphone. Aside from writing about himself in the third-person (and wondering how well this would translate into Chinese), Stephen enjoys reading, rowing, cycling, swimming, baseball, basketball, football and encountering God in unexpected places. He currently resides in Downtown Brooklyn with his best friend and wife, Mi, and two very energetic sons, Elliot and Jaken.
